Make A PAWSitive Impact This Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is right around the corner; the perfect opportunity to give back to your community and make a positive difference! With many worthy organizations out there, you might be wondering which ones to support this holiday season. This year, consider making a PAWsitive impact in the lives of shelter dogs and individuals with different abilities by supporting Mission Marcus: Operation PAWsible. Your contribution to Mission Marcus will have double the impact by directly benefiting dogs in shelters and by supporting our mission of providing meaningful work and opportunities for individuals with different abilities.

According to the ASPCA, more than 3.1 million dogs enter animal shelters in the United States every year. Although this number has significantly decreased from 3.9 million dogs in 2011 thanks to spay-and-neuter efforts and advances in microchip technology, the large number of dogs in shelters still places a strain on shelter resources. The condition of each shelter is different, but many shelters are run by volunteers and rely on donations. With limited funding and resources, many shelters look to the kindness of supporters during events such as Giving Tuesday. Many shelters use donations from Giving Tuesday and other fundraising events throughout the year to run building facilities, buy food, and pay for veterinary care. The more donations shelters receive, the more animals they can save throughout the year. This year, you can help dogs in shelters by contributing to Mission Marcus.

In addition to supporting shelter dogs, Mission Marcus serves as a model to create meaningful opportunities for individuals with different abilities. When you make a contribution to Mission Marcus: Operation PAWsible, you will receive a personalized masterpiece from Marcus himself thanking you for your contribution. These masterpieces are created, prepared, and mailed by Marcus. This involves continuing to learn work and life skills by printing off the order form, fulfilling the masterpiece picture request, coloring and writing the message to the contributor, addressing and labeling envelopes and dropping them off at the post office.

Mission Marcus is also involved in many local outreach events, where there are opportunities to interact with community members, fundraise, and raise awareness for multiple dog organizations. This uniquely combines Marcus’ passion for helping dogs and creates meaningful ways for him to support his community.

With its unique structure and two-fold mission, Mission Marcus is a model for how others can create purposeful opportunities for individuals with different abilities. One of the strengths of the Mission Marcus model is the active role that individuals with different abilities play. This allows the individuals to engage directly with their communities and explore their unique passions and talents to their fullest extent. Supporting Mission Marcus through contributions helps raise awareness and funds for dog rescues and shelters and while helping to create meaningful opportunities for individuals with different abilities.

This Giving Tuesday, make a pawsitive impact and support dogs and individuals with different abilities by contributing to Mission Marcus: Operation PAWsible!
